Tamale Pie Casserole Recipe




Tamale Pie Casserole
1-1/2 lb. ground turkey or hamburger
1 onion, chopped
1 green bell pepper, chopped
2 cups stewed tomatoes
1 small can tomato paste
2 cups whole kernel corn
1 cup sliced black olives
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tspn. garlic powder
1/4 tsp. pepper
1 tbsp. chili powder
Crust:
1 1/2 cups milk
1/2 cup cornmeal
2 tbsp. butter
1 tsp. salt
2 eggs, beaten
2 cups shredded cheese


In a large skillet,thoroughly cook the ground meat. If you use hamburger, drain the fat out of the pan before proceeding. Add the onion, stewed tomatoes, tomato paste, corn, olives, green pepper, and seasonings and stir together. Continue cooking until all ingredients are heated through. Pour into a well greased 8 x 12 inch baking dish. Set aside.
In a large bowl, mix together the the milk, cornmeal, butter and salt. Pour the mixture into a large pan and cook over medium heat until the mixture is thick and sticky. Add the eggs and cheese to the pan, mix well and pour over meat mixture in the baking pan.
Bake at 350 for approximately 50 minutes; until top is a golden brown.

For added oomph, serve with guacamole, sour cream, & salsa.
